All properties in the Town of Shelby are recorded with the Town Assessor. All transfers, property owner's names and selling prices are also recorded. Sales verification letters are sent to ascertain the accuracy of this information. All property mergers and splits are recorded and given an assessed value. Tax maps, available in this office, show the dimensions of parcels and their location in the Town of Shelby. New construction and renovations are reviewed and assessed; exemptions are also administered by this office.

The Town Clerk/Tax Collector is an elected position. This official serves a 4-year term.
Cash, check and credit card tax payments are accepted at Shelby Town Hall from January 1 through April 30 for the current tax year. For delinquent tax information or payments after April 30, you must contact the County Treasurer's office at (585) 589-5353.

The Town Clerk is a Notary Public and is also responsible for: Attending all Town Board Meetings, Recording Secretary Authors Minutes Book, Official Record of Town Government, Issuing Handicapped Parking Permits, Issuing Marriage Licenses, Issuing Dog Licenses, Issuing Conservation Licenses (Hunting – Fishing – Trapping), Coordinating Elections, Registering Vital Statistics for Birth and Death Records.
